Admission to IISER 2024 is exclusively through the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT), which is a computer-based test scheduled on Sunday, June 09, 2024 at 9:00 AM, at various centres across the country.
To get high quality Science education, Government of India, has set up seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) at Pune, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Berhampur, Thiruvananthapuram and Tirupati. IISER entrance exam (called as IISER Aptitude Test) is conducted annually in computer-based mode by IISER for admission in BS (four year degree) and Integrated BS-MS (five year dual degree) courses.
From 2023-24 academic session, along with IISER, IISc Bangalore and IIT Madras (4 Year BS Programme) also considering IISER aptitude test for admission in Bsc/BS courses.

IISER Aptitude Test 2024 Application Form and Registration
IISER Aptitude Test 2024 registrations are going on. Candidates can fill IAT 2024 application form online at IISER admission portal. The last to apply for IISER Aptitude Test is 13 May, 2024.
The important points about IISER registration and application form:
- Students who have passed/ appearing in grade 12 can apply for IISER aptitude test.
- Candidates have to apply online through the IISER website.
- Candidates should register through a valid email-id and phone number.
- The IISER application process will contain various steps like registration, filling up of application form, documents uploading, online fee payment, etc.
- After completion of the application process, candidates are advised to print the application form and fee payment proof for any further use in future.
How to Apply for the IISER Aptitude Test 2024?
Steps to fill the IISER Aptitude Test online application form.
- Open the IISER application portal.
- Read the instructions, Register to get User ID and Password, Verify through OTP and captcha.
- Fill the online application form.
- Upload the required images of documents.
- Pay the application fee and save/print the application form.
Application Fee for the IISER Aptitude Exam
The application fee for IISER Aptitude exam is Rs.2,000 for General/ EWS/ OBC-NCL students and Rs.1,000 for SC/ ST/ PWD/ Kashmiri migrants students. The application fee for foreign nationals is Rs. 8,500/-.
Note: Please do not use RuPay Credit Card through UPI for paying the IAT Application Form Fee.
IISER Eligibility Criteria 2024
Eligibility Criteria for IISER 2024 through IAT :
- Candidate must be an Indian national or PIO or OCI. Foreign Nationals can apply separately.
- Any student who has qualified/ appearing in Class XII (or equivalent) examination in science stream either in the year 2022, 2023 or 2024 can apply.
- Candidates must have taken at least three subjects among Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics during their Class XII (or equivalent) exam.
- Candidates belonging to GEN/OBC and OBC-NCL should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in the qualifying examination.
- Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD should have scored a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in the qualifying examination.

Documents required to fill IAT 2024 application :
- Class X certificate.
- Class XII (or equivalent examination) certificate/ marks sheet.
- If the class XII (or equivalent) marks sheet is not available now, then you can instead upload a signed declaration form - “DECLARATION BY THE CANDIDATE IN LIEU OF ELIGIBILITY EXAM CERTIFICATE/MARKSHEET” (given in IISER information brochure). Fill up the form, sign it, scan it and then upload. The scanned copies of the actual marks sheet must be uploaded on or before 7th July 2024, failing which you will not be allotted a seat in any of the IISERs.

IISER Aptitude Test Pattern 2024
The IISER Aptitude Test 2024 (IAT-2024) will be a computer-based, 3-hour test covering Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The IISER aptitude test will have multiple choice type questions with only one correct answer. Each correct answer will be awarded 4 marks. Each incorrect answer will lead to the deduction of 1 mark.

IISER Admission Channels 2024
The admission to IISER 2024-25 session will be conducted on the basis of only IISER Aptitude Test.

IISER Admission Process 2024 for Bsc/ Integrated MSc
IISER will take admission to Bsc/ Integrated MSc programs on the basis of IISER Aptitude Test (IAT). IISER Aptitude Test will be conducted in online mode. JEE and KVPY channels are no longer valid for IISER admissions 2024-25.
How to get admission in IISER through JEE? What JEE rank is required for admission in IISER?
Admission in IISER through JEE is not applicable from 2024-25. Candidates need to clear the IISER Aptitude Test for admission in IISER.
Candidates who clear JEE Advanced exam are eligible for admission in IISER. Candidates are not eligible for admission in IISER through JEE Main only. Candidates seeking admission in IISER through JEE should have a rank within 15,000 in the common rank list or in the respective category rank lists (GEN-EWS/OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD).
IISER Admission through SCB Channel
Candidates can take admission in IISER through SCB Channel (Percentage in State and Central Boards) by clearing the IISER Aptitude Test. Admission in IISER doesn't happen just on the basis of marks in board exams. Minimum 60% marks in class 12 boards is required to be eligible for admission in IISER.

As per the IISER 2024 seat matrix, the total number of seats in IISER is 1933, out of which 1818 are for BS-MS dual degree program with each IISER having the following number of seats :

IISER Aptitude Test for IISc Bangalore
IISER Aptitude Test is the new admission channel for IISc Bangalore Bachelor of Science (Research) program from 2023. Candidates interested in admission in IISc through IISER Aptitude Test must apply separately at both the IISc admission portal and IISER application portal.
IISER Aptitude Test for Admission in IIT Madras
IIT Madras will admit students on the basis of IISER Aptitude Test for admission in BS-Medical Sciences and Engineering program. Candidates interested in admission in IIT Madras through IISER Aptitude Test must apply separately at both the IIT Madras admission portal and IISER application portal.

How to get into IISER after 12th?
Any student who has passed/ appearing in class 12th (science stream) can get into IISER either through IISER aptitude test.
How much percentage is required in class 12th for IISER?
Class 12 marks matter in IISER. Candidates (GEN/OBC) scoring a minimum of 60% marks in class 12 are eligible for admission in IISER through IAT.
Is Math required in class 12 for admission in IISER?
No, Math is not mandatory for BS-MS degree programs in IISER. For admission to BS degree programs at IISER Bhopal, Mathematics as one of the subjects at class XII level is required.
Can PCB/ PCM students apply in IISER?
PCB and PCM, both science stream students can apply for BS- MS (five year) dual degree programs in IISERs. For applying to any of the BS degree programs, students must have Mathematics as one of the subjects in class XII.
Is PCMB compulsory for IAT exam?
PCMB in class 12 is not compulsory to take the IAT exam. Both PCM and PCB students can apply for IAT. However, PCMB students will have a slight advantage in the exam as IAT asks questions from both Math and Biology.
Can I give IISER aptitude test without biology? Is biology optional in IISER?
Though Biology is not compulsory in class 12 to give IISER aptitude test, it is not an optional subject in IAT exam. You have to attempt Biology, Math, Physics, Chemistry, all 4 subjects in the IISER aptitude test.
Can I skip biology in IISER?
No, you can't skip Biology in IISER aptitude test. There will be 15 questions from Biology in the IISER exam. You will lose 60 marks if you skip Biology in the IAT exam.
Can I skip Math in IISER?
No, you can't skip Math in IISER aptitude test. There will be 15 questions from Math in the IISER exam. You will lose 60 marks if you skip Math in the IAT exam.
Do I need to apply separately for each IISER?
No. All IISERs admit students through a common application process. One application form is valid for all the IISERs.
Can droppers appear for IISER Aptitude Test?
Yes, 1 year dropper after class 12 can appear for IISER aptitude test. If you think you can prepare better for IAT by taking a drop, without worrying about school and board exams, then you can take a drop for IISER Aptitude Test.
Can International Board students apply for admission in IISER?
Yes, Indian students from all boards, including international education boards can apply for admission in IISER.
Can NRI/OCI/PIO students apply for admission in IISER?
Yes, NRI/OCI/PIO students can apply for admission in IISER. However, there is no separate quota for NRIs in IISER.
