IIT Admission Process for Foreign Students/ OCI/ PIO
Foreign students can take admission in IITs through the JEE Advanced Online Test. JEE Advanced Examination is conducted for admission into various undergraduate programmes across 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Seats allotted to foreign nationals are extra seats, with a cap of 10% of total number of seats in every course.
The foreign national candidates including OCI and PIO (who have studied or are studying Abroad at 10+2 level or equivalent) are not required to write JEE Main and can register for JEE Advanced directly subject to fulfillment of other eligibility criteria.
Note : OCI/PIO candidates who have secured OCI/PIO card before 04.03.2021 shall be considered as Indian nationals, for the purpose of admission to IITs. These Candidates MUST appear in the B.E./B.Tech. Paper of JEE Main and qualify to be eligible for JEE Advanced.

JEE Advanced Registration for Foreign Nationals
JEE Advanced online registration for foreign candidates begins in the month of April. Foreign candidates who have appeared/ are appearing for class XII or equivalent exam have to register online through the JEE Advanced official website.
How Should a Foreign National Student Apply for JEE Advanced?
Steps to apply for JEE Advanced (Foreign National/ OCI/ PIO) :
- Open JEE Advanced Registration Portal.
- Click on "Foreign National Candidate Direct Registration".
- Read the instructions carefully, Check "I have read the above instructions and procedures" and click on "Proceed to Register Online".
- Fill out the registration form and Note down Login ID and Password for subsequent login.
- Upload the required documents.
- Pay the Registration Fee online.
- Print the “Registration Acknowledgement” with UNIQUE Registration number.

JEE Advanced 2025 Eligibility Criteria for Foreign National Candidates
- Number of attempts: A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times and that too in consecutive years.
- Appearance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination: The candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2024 or 2025 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
- Age limit: Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 2000.
- Earlier admission at IITs: The candidate should NOT have taken admission (irrespective of whether or not he/she continued in the program) OR even accepted admission by paying admission fee at any of the IITs in the past; even candidates whose admission was canceled are NOT eligible.
Performance in Class XII Or Equivalent Examination
The candidates should satisfy at least one of the following two criteria for admission to IITs:
1. Must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks in the Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination.
2. Must be within the top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) board examination.
Documents Required for JEE Advanced Registration from Foreign Nationals
- Scanned Photograph and Signature
- Birth certificate for age proof
- Class XII (or equivalent examination) certificate [for those who appeared first time for this examination in 2024 or whose Board declared the Class XII (or equivalent examination) result after September 21, 2023]. If mark sheet of Class XII (or equivalent examination) for 2025 is available, then it must be uploaded.
- Identity proof in the form of Citizenship certificate/Foreign Passport/OCI/PIO Card where applicable
- Testimonial, if required
Foreign Exam Centres Where JEE Advanced Will Be Held
JEE Advanced 2025 will be conducted in 2 cities outside India - Kathmandu (Nepal) and Abu Dhabi (UAE). Foreign national candidates can also choose the exam city in India.
