What is IIT JEE?

JEE Main is conducted by NTA for admission in NITs, IIITs and other state/ central engineering colleges. JEE Advanced is conducted by the IIT examination body for admission in IITs. Is JEE and IIT the same?

JEE and IIT are not the same but interconnected to each other. IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) are the top engineering colleges in the country whereas JEE is an entrance exam for getting admission in these IITs. IIT JEE is generally called as the entrance exam for admission in top engineering colleges.

What is IIT JEE Main and Advance?

IIT JEE Main is conducted by NTA for admission to undergraduate engineering programs at NITs, IIITs and other centrally/ state funded technical institutions. IIT JEE Advanced is conducted for admission into various undergraduate programmes across all Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

What is the difference between JEE Main and Advanced?

Given below are the major differences between JEE Main and Advanced.

  • JEE Main is for admission in NITs, IIITs and other centrally/ state funded technical institutions whereas JEE Advanced is for admission in IITs.
  • A candidate can attempt JEE Main for 3 years and JEE Advanced for 2 years, starting from the year when he/ she appears for class 12/ qualifying exam.
  • JEE Main is conducted 2 times in a year while JEE Advanced is conducted only once a year.
  • JEE Main is conducted on multiple days in two shifts. JEE Advanced is conducted on a single day.
  • JEE Main for B.tech. course consists of only one paper whereas JEE Advanced consists of two papers.
  • JEE Main exam is memory based and tests your understanding, speed and accuracy. Whereas JEE Advanced requires in-depth understanding of concepts.

Is the JEE exam for engineering conducted after class 10, 11 or 12?

JEE exam for engineering is conducted after class 12. Students appearing for class 12 exams are eligible to write JEE exam provisionally subject to their fulfilling the eligibility criteria later.

Are AIEEE and JEE the same?

AIEEE and JEE are not exactly the same. JEE Main can be considered as refurnished AIEEE with lots of changes in exam pattern. IIT JEE was known as JEE Pre and Mains in the past, and now it's called JEE Advanced.

Is JEE Main enough for IIT?

No, JEE Main is the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, which a candidate has to clear (with AIR in top 2,50,000) in order to appear for JEE Advanced. A candidate needs to clear JEE Advanced exam to get admission in IIT.

Is it okay if we clear only JEE Main? Can we get a good engineering college?

It will be fine if you clear JEE Main only. NITs, IIITs and many prestigious National/ State engineering colleges take JEE Main score for BTech/ BE admissions.

How hard is IIT JEE?

What is the qualification for IIT?

The qualification for IITs is that a candidate should either be in category-wise top 20 percentile in class XII or must have scored at least 75% aggregate marks for general and OBC-NCL or 65% aggregate marks for SC, ST and PwD candidates.

How many seats are there in IITs in india?

There are close to 12,000 seats overall in 23 IITs in the country. These also include supernumerary seats for female candidates as well.

What is the eligibility for the IIT entrance exam?

The eligibility criteria for IIT entrance exam (JEE Advanced).

  • The candidate should be among the top 2,50,000 candidates (all categories included) in JEE Main.
  • A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times and that too in consecutive years.
  • The candidate should have appeared/ passed the Class XII (or equivalent) examination.
  • The candidate should have scored at least 75% aggregate marks for general and OBC-NCL (or 65% aggregate marks for SC, ST and PwD) candidates OR be in category-wise top 20 percentile in class XII.
