NEET 2016 Latest Updates

This is an old post on all the NEET updates in 2016 when NEET was re-introduced and NEET 2016 was conducted in two phases – NEET-I and NEET-II.

For any new changes in NEET exam pattern in future, refer this page : NEET-UG Examination Pattern

NEET Update, December 10, 2016 :

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2017 for admissions to medical colleges will be held in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu – Anupriya Patel, Minister of State (Health and Family Welfare).

NEET Update 2nd August 2016 :

Parliament passed bills assigning constitutional status to NEET. From next year, admission to medical and dental courses across the country, including those offered by private colleges, will be done through NEET.

Further, states will not be able to hold their separate entrance exams after the one year exemption offered to them expires.

The new legislation will end exploitation of students by colleges demanding capitation fees. A committee of judges will decide the fees for private colleges, while the government will do it for government institutes.

Health ministry had written to states seeking details of the number of students who appeared in local language tests in the last three years so that the centre can conduct NEET in regional languages.

The centre will provide a state-wise merit list of students to the respective states, with the name, rank, domicile and percentile of each student. The states will have the freedom to give priority to students from rural areas/backward regions in terms of allotting extra marks.

NEET Update 14th July 2016 :

As expected, Supreme court has decided not to interfere in NEET schedule, and keeping students interests in mind, refuses to stay ordinance on NEET. States who have opted out of NEET this year will continue to hold their respective state CET.

NEET 2 will take place on 24th July.

Meanwhile, HRD ministry has issued some clarification for NEET aspirants,

NEET Update 26th May 2016 :

NEET-II registration is now open.

Last date for submitting NEET 2 application form is : 25th June, 2016

NEET Update 24th May 2016 :  President have signed the ordinance by centre to exempt states out of NEET this year.

Once again, let me repeat, NEET Phase 2 is on schedule. It will take place. It is open for all students.

Registration for NEET 2 will start soon.

Why NEET 2 is important for students?

  1. Delhi, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh have confirmed that they will fill their 85% domicile quota with NEET 2016 score only.
  2. Other states which are already under NEET for 85% Quota are: Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andaman & Nicobar, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya and Odisha.
  3. Colleges already under NEET 2016 for 100% quota are AFMC Pune, BHU, Hamdard University, New Delhi.
  4. 15% quota of all States and many Private Colleges (except AP & JK ) will fill through NEET Score only.

It is still open for the states to decide whether they will conduct separate exam or take admission through NEET score.

NEET Update 20th May 2016 :  Central government have clear an ordinance today to exempt states out of NEET this year. It may be challenged in Supreme Court again.

Note: NEET 2 is not canceled. All central government colleges, private medical colleges and deemed universities are still under NEET.

This will clear all misconceptions about NEET that is circulated by media today,

NEET Status before 20th May, 2016

The Final verdict is out. NEET 2 is on schedule and all State medical entrance exams are canceled as per SC order. Even if some states go ahead with separate exams (or the one which are already conducted), the students can’t take admissions in MBBS and BDS courses on the basis of CET ranks. Only NEET score will be considered for admission.

Will State PMT/CET happen or Is it cancelled?

SC : States are not allowed to conduct separate medical entrance exams.

What is NEET Phase 1 and NEET Phase 2?

NEET phase 1 is for all those who have applied for AIPMT 2016. It’s on 1st May (already conducted). NEET Phase 2 is for the remaining candidates (Now students who have given NEET Phase 1 can also give Phase 2.). They need to register for NEET Phase 2. It’s on 24th July. Final result of two phases will be declared by Aug 17.

Are AIIMS and JIPMER part of NEET?

AIIMS and JIPMER will be out of NEET and they will continue to conduct their entrance exams.

AIIMS and JIPMER both are central autonomous institutes and they don’t come under MCI.

What will be the exam format and syllabus for NEET Phase 2?

The pattern and syllabus of NEET phase 2 examination will be likely to be the same as AIPMT.

When will NEET Phase 2 registration starts?

CBSE and MCI will announce schedule and process of registration for NEET Phase 2 very soon.

This is the summary of what has happened in all the NEET hearings in Supreme Court. (It is one of the rare post which gave you all the NEET updates Live, before any major news portal or channel.)

NEET Hearing, 9th May, 2016 (Monday) : What could be a final hearing on NEET, SC expected to announce the final decision on NEET 2016. Arguments will start between 2 to 2.30 PM today.

Update : Hearing for NEET has started. We hope all confusions about NEET resolve today.

Breaking: All students can give NEET Phase 2 exam in July.

NEET Phase 2 exam in July would be conducted in regional languages also.

The dates of overall admission procedure can be extended from September 30 to October 31.

Supreme Court reserves order, would be uploaded on website at 4:30 p.m today.

Update : NEET order is getting delayed as Justice Shiv Kirti Singh was on bench for other matter. We are tracking the SC site and will update when the order would be uploaded.

“It’s Final Now. SC’s order out. NEET is the only way to get admission for MBBS and BDS courses in Medical colleges. No State CETs.”

Read the Full NEET Order from Supreme Court: NEET-order-9-may-2016

(Note: By mistake wrong file has been uploaded earlier, the above link is the correct order from SC.)

“Those student who appeared in NEET Phase 1 will be allowed to appear for NEET Phase 2 also, but their marks in NEET 1 would be scrapped (need to give up their candidature from NEET Phase 1).”

“Score secured in NEET Phase 2 would be considered for admission, and not NEET Phase 1 (if a student appears for both NEET 1 & 2)”

“CBSE and MCI can change the dates for NEET Phase 2 examination (July 24  date for NEET Phase 2 can be changed if required).”

All state level medical exams like WBJEE-Medical, EAMCET, UPCMET and other State CETs are cancelled now as per SC order.

NEET Hearing, 6th May, 2016 (Friday) : The fate of State CETs and NEET Phase 2 implementation issues (like who can give NEET 2016) is likely to get resolve today. SC should come out with solution asap. We definitely don’t want more delay and anxiety to students and parents.

Keep checking on this page for today’s updates (after 2 p.m).

Update: And it happened again, adjourned to Monday. MCI asked SC that states be allowed to hold medical entrance tests & NEET not be imposed on them for current year. They said, “We will find some solution to this medical test mess by Monday”.

Supreme court in its order made two key points today,

  1. A private college/university can’t conduct any separate medical entrance test for MBBS and BDS studies.
  2. Those students who applied (but could not appear for NEET Phase 1) may appear at NEET phase 2.

Update: COMEDK UGET 2016 exam for medical and dental streams is cancelled.

Meanwhile, after a day’s delay, AIIMS MBBS 2016 Admit card has been uploaded on the AIIMS website.

NEET Verdict, 5th May, 2016 (Thursday) : It’s a big day for all medical aspirants as SC expected to announce a final decision on NEET against the plea by states on their issues in implementing NEET. MCI will respond to States’ concerns today.

Do we see some states out of NEET? What will happen to already conducted CETs?

Update : The hearing has been adjourned till tomorrow 2 p.m (Friday). Supreme Court asked CBSE whether it is possible to conduct July 24 (NEET Phase 2) exam for all including those who had written phase 1. CBSE says it is not impossible but might be very difficult, will inform court tomorrow.

So, chances are that we may see a Single Phase NEET for all students.

Also, Centre was asked, “Can states be allowed to hold separate medical entrance for this year”. Solicitor General said, “As many states want NEET to be deferred till next year, Centre can consider it”. They will clear it tomorrow.

In that case, State CETs may not get canceled this year!

No final verdict delivered today. We have to wait for tomorrow’s hearing on any further advancement on NEET.

Update 3rd May, 2016 (Tuesday): SC clarifies that common medical entrance test, NEET, will go as per schedule. SC adjourned the matter till Thursday, 5th May, 2016. It has asked MCI to respond to the state government’s plea of holding separate exams for admission in medical courses. SC said it will pass order after hearing all parties.

Update 30th April, 2016: A five-judge bench will revisit the legality of NEET exam on 3 May and hear all states that have objected to the common medical entrance test.

Update 29th April, 2016: “Medical entrance examination conducted by states & private medical colleges can go on as per schedule till matter is settled by us: SC”

This is after Attorney General told SC to grant an urgent hearing on the issue to remove confusion among the students. Center pleads for one phase NEET.

Welcome Back NEET – Single Medical Entrance Examination

Medical aspirants who are having hard time till now of filling multiple application forms and sitting for national (AIPMT) and many state level (EAMCET, COMEDK, WBJEE, MHCET-Medical) CETs for admission to MBBS and BDS courses can take a sigh of breath. Now, there will be only a single entrance examination, NEET, for undergraduate courses in medical.

NEET-UG was first introduced in 2013. But later the same year, SC canceled the NEET exam saying that MCI could not interfere with the admission process done by colleges. But on April 11, this year, five-judge Constitution bench recalled the earlier verdict and allowed the Central Government and the Medical Council of India (MCI) to implement the common entrance test.
